From his office, he works with clients to better understand their life situations to help them resolve dilemmas and establish lifestyles consistent with their values, strengths, and personal goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMental Health\u201d has become a buzz word in the medical profession and in our national media. Adjustments related to mental health are often times considered to be the cause or the solution to so many of our problems as individuals and in society as a whole. Poor mental health can be implicated in medical noncompliance, addiction, professional burnout, marital dissatisfaction, self harm, and the list goes on and on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what is this elusive \u201cmental health\u201d? What is it that we\u2019re actually talking about when we suggest that an individual is suffering from mental health problems or crises? The truth is that when we actually speak directly with the patient, the individual living with this failing mental health, we find a human being who is lacking either the capacities or strategies to handle the circumstances of their life in a manner that would allow them to be content, adaptive, or function optimally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I listen to my patients, discuss the complexities and subtleties of their lives in vivid detail. I want to do this, because I have the time and training to do this complicated work, and because the better I can understand a human being and their life situation, the more effective I can be at helping them to resolve their dilemmas and establish a lifestyle that is consistent with their values, strengths, and personal goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My work is committed to an understanding of the individual from a holistic perspective. Cultural, religious, identity and spiritual factors all coalesce into the development of each individual&#8217;s life story and personality.
